Inhalation sedation at our Munich dental practice – a completely safe method that banishes stress and anxiety

The key things to know about inhalation sedation

Do you experience anxiety / fear when it comes to dental procedures?

Thanks to gentle methods such as inhalation sedation – a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen, also known as ‘happy gas’ or ‘laughing gas’ – there’s no longer any reason to feel stressed or scared when visiting the dentist, especially with the special attention and empathy you’ll receive from our practice team during the procedure. By opting for inhalation sedation, your treatment will be a much more relaxed experience than ever before. This effective method leaves you feeling light and carefree while the procedure seemingly takes place in the blink of an eye. We take all the necessary precautions and will explain the process to you in detail.

What are the risks of using inhalation sedation?

Sedation via nitrous oxide and oxygen is an especially gentle yet incredibly effective method and is one of the latest technological achievements. We use ultra-modern medical devices that guarantee an optimal supply of oxygen and thereby eliminate even the slightest risk to your safety. Nitrous oxide is very easily absorbed into the body but cannot be metabolised. This means it doesn’t leave any traces behind in your body following treatment. There are no known allergies associated with it.

When is it appropriate to use inhalation sedation?

In principle, anyone looking for a relaxing experience when having a dental examination or treatment can request inhalation sedation. This type of sedation is especially well suited to three particular groups of patients: patients who suffer from anxiety; children who are scared of dentists or doctors, or who have problems sitting still or keeping their mouth open for a long time; and patients with a strong gag reflex. We are one of only a few dental practices in Munich to offer this convenient option and we would be happy to discuss it with you further.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation Munich

Nitrous Oxide Sedation Munich

Thanks to the gentle methods of modern dentistry, there is no longer any reason to feel stressed or anxious on your visit to the dentist. However, there are still people who are confronted with a strong emotional aversion to dental treatment or medical treatment in general. In dentistry, we refer to this as dental anxiety. Patients who suffer from it require special attention and empathy during treatment. In our Munich dental practice, the most recent technological achievement in this regard is sedation using nitrous oxide. It can make your treatment more relaxed than ever before.

Advantages of Nitrous Oxide Sedation Munich

Unfortunately, it is precisely those people with the strongest fear of dental procedures who are statistically the most at risk for problems in the oral area. This is due to their tendency to neglect routine check-ups and avoid examination by a medical specialist when they experience mild pain or troubles. The consequence: Small everyday problems which would be easy and straightforward to solve when treated early are left to turn into big problems over the course of months and years.

For this reason, it is our task to make visits to our dental practice in Munich as easy and pleasant for our dental anxiety patients as we possibly can. An especially gentle, but highly effective method of ensuring you will feel relaxed and at ease during your treatment is sedation using nitrous oxide. For this, we use state-of-the-art medical equipment which guarantee an optimal oxygen supply and eliminate even the smallest safety risk. You feel light and carefree, and the treatment seems to just fly by.

Generally speaking, due to the mild and uncomplicated way nitrous oxide works, anyone who would like to experience an extra-comfortable dental examination or treatment at Dr. Butz und Partner Munich can be sedated with nitrous oxide. However, there are in general three groups of patients for whom this kind of sedation is especially suitable:

Patients with dental anxiety.

Children who experience fear of the dentist or who have trouble sitting still and keeping their mouth opened during an examination of treatment.

People with an unusually strong gag reflex who experience discomfort with any kind of contact with dental instruments in their oral cavity.

Procedure of Nitrous Oxide Sedation Munich

Nitrous oxide (N2O) is a colourless gas with a slightly sweet smell and taste. The body can very easily absorb, but not metabolise it. This means that it does not leave any traces in the body after treatment.

It is also commonly known as laughing gas because it induces a pleasant feeling of joy and lightness which can bring some patients to giggle a bit. In any case, the treatment is experienced positively. This can not only help to temporarily suppress dental anxiety, but can also lead to lasting positive changes in how patients who may have had a bad experience at the dentist in the past think of visiting a dentist in the future.

In our Munich dental practice, a comfortable silicon mask will be placed over your nose. Through it, you will be able to breathe without any problems while a precisely controlled part of the air your breathe is replaced by a mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide. The concentration can very easily be lowered or raised, enabling your dentist to quickly react to your wishes and regulate your sedation. You will be fully conscious during the entire procedure, able to talk to your dentist. In this way, you will have a direct say in regulating the dosage you receive. In addition, your pulse and oxygen supply will be monitored by a specific device at every point of the treatment. A few minutes after, the effects will be completely gone and you will be able to leave the practice as you usually do. There are no known allergies.

30 minutes are charged with €99. Your dentist for nitrous oxide sedation Munich.
